  • Use BHS-101 strips with the matching code chip

Before You Start

  • Insert the code chip and confirm the code matches the strip canister.
  • Units are fixed to g/dL, g/L, or mmol/L on the device.
  • Operating range: 10-40C, indoor use.

Specimen Options

  • Capillary: use the second drop of fingertip blood.
  • Venous: EDTA or heparin whole blood only.
  • Mix venous specimens well and test within 8 hours.
  • If refrigerated, bring to 10-40C for about 15 minutes.

Ordered Test Steps

  1. Wash and dry hands, warm the finger, and prepare supplies.
  2. Turn on the meter and verify the code number.
  3. Insert a test strip fully in the direction of the arrows.
  4. Collect 10 uL blood with a capillary transfer tube.
  5. Apply the sample to the center of the specimen area when the blood-drop symbol flashes.
  6. Wait about 5 seconds, then read Hb and calculated Hct.
  7. Remove the strip and dispose of materials safely.

Sampling Tips

  • Do not touch the test strip with the tube tip.
  • Do not squeeze the capillary tube while sampling.
  • Ensure the tube fills by capillary action to the line.
  • Avoid iodine swabs for fingertip collection.

After the Test

  • Dispose of blood materials as potentially infectious.
  • Keep the strip channel clean and dry.
  • Auto power-off after 5 minutes of inactivity.

Error Codes and Fixes

Use this table to resolve display codes quickly without opening the full manual.

If a code persists after the fix, repeat the test with a new strip and sample.
Code Meaning What to Do
E-1 Sensor area damaged, dirty, or blocked at turn-on (used strip left in meter). Clean the sensor area, remove obstructions, restart. Contact distributor if window is broken.
E-2 Test strip removed during the test. Repeat the test and keep the strip in place.
E-3 Sample added too early. Add the sample only after the blood-drop symbol flashes.
E-4 Battery power is low. Replace with new batteries.
E-6 Code chip removed during testing or strip expired. Insert the proper code chip, confirm it matches the strip, and use a valid strip.
E-7 Temperature out of range (below 10C or above 40C). Move to an environment between 10-40C.
no code Code chip not inserted. Insert the code chip.
HI Result is higher than the limit. Retest with a new strip and contact your doctor.
Lo Result is lower than the limit. Review the test steps and retest.

Oh snap! Failed to reconnect with the server. This is typically caused by a longer network outage, or if the server has been taken down. You can try to reconnect, but if that does not work, you need to reload the page.
Oh man! The server rejected the attempt to reconnect. The only option now is to reload the page, but be prepared that it won't work, since this is typically caused by a failure on the server.
